Biografi
Den mångfaldigt prisbelönade italienske fagottisten Sergio Azzolini har studerat vid Conservatorio Claudio Monteverdi i Bolzano och vid Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien i Hannover. Parallellt med sin karriär som modern solofagottist har Sergio Azzolini fokuserat på att spela tidig musik på historiska instrument. Azzolini finns representerad i en stor mängd inspelningar, bland annat fyra (!) volymer med fagottkonserter av Vivaldi. Idag är Azzolini mycket efterfrågad internationellt och välkänd som både dirigent och solist.

Sergio Azzolini was born in Bolzano in 1967. He started studying in his hometown with Romano Santi and then continued his studies in Hannover (Germany) with Klaus Thunemann. Around that time, he was already working as a solo bassoonist for the European Community Youth Orchestra. He won, amongst others, the C. M. von Weber-competition as well as the Prague spring competition and the ARD-competition, where he also successfully participated with the Ma’a lot Quintett, an ensemble he has played with for ten years.
Parallel to his career as a modern solo bassoonist Sergio Azzolini has focused on playing early music on historical instruments. As a baroque bassoonist and soloist, he played with the Ensemble Baroque de Limoges, Concentus Musicus Wien, Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca, L’Aura Soave Cremona, La Stravaganza Köln, Holland Baroque Society, Händel-Festspielorchester Halle and Accademia Bizantina. Since 2013, one of his focuses is the work with his own baroque orchestra, L’Onda Armonica.
Today, Sergio Azzolini is much asked for internationally, working as a conductor and soloist for ensembles as well as orchestras with a focus on music from the 18th and 19th century. A look at his numerous CD productions reveals an exceptional diversity in styles. Right now, Sergio Azzolini finished the recording all of Antonio Vivaldi’s concertos for bassoon for the label Naïve.
Sergio Azzolini is internationally much asked and well known as leader of masterclasses for modern and historical bassoon.
